Our client is looking for a Temporary Assistant Project Archivist (digital) for a 6-18 month+ temporary position. The role can be part time or full time hours and is mostly remote (candidates must be available to travel to midtown Manhattan for occasional meetings and work remotely from NY or NJ to be considered).
The organization is an international foundation. The temporary project archivist will work on a project processing sensitive digital archival information. Most of the work is done in Preservica.
All candidates must have (1) ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library, archival or information studies or Master’s degree in social sciences and successful completion of archival training; and (2) subject area expertise or educational background in history, international relations, or political science.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM. They are open to candidates who can work anywhere from 25-40 hours per week. No overtime.
Length: at least 6 months, but likely to be longer and up to 18 months or more. We are looking for someone with open availability to stay through the end of the project.
Assistant Project Archivist
The assistant project archivist will primarily support surveying, arranging, and describing records related to human rights, democracy, and justice.
Qualifications
(1) ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library, archival or information studies or Master’s degree in social sciences and successful completion of archival training;
and (2) subject area expertise or educational background in history, international relations, or political science.
Required Experience
-1+ year of experience creating descriptive records for archival collections (physical and/or digital).
-Experience performing basic preservation of materials strongly preferred.
Required Skills
-A strong background in archival theory and practice, especially in hands-on arrangement and description, as well as a familiarity with current approaches to born-digital materials.
-Demonstrated knowledge of current standards for archival description (Dublin Core, LCSH, authority control).
-Experience with Preservica (strongly preferred) or other digital preservation software and tools.
-Working knowledge of historical research methodology and experience with standard bibliographic tools.
-Successfully demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, problem-solving, analytic and organization skills.
-Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
-Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
-Able to lift items up to 40 pounds.
Compensation: $47-$50/hr.
