Director of Development and Communications | 20 hours/week | 3-6 month+, temp/temp-to-perm role | hybrid | Non-Profit


Our client is looking for a PART TIME Director of Development and Communications for a 3-6 month+ temporary position (could turn into a permanent job). The role is 20 hours per week and is hybrid, at least 1 day per week are required to be done from their Brooklyn office.

The organizational is local non-profit that works with the children of incarcerated parents. This role leads leads the fundraising and communications efforts to help take the organization to the next level of visibility and engagement. This has been a time of growth for the org and they seek a visionary, self-directed nonprofit professional to engage individuals, corporations, and foundations, along with partnering with a team of seasoned communications strategist on elevating the organization’s voice and creating new partnership opportunities. 

Essential Job Functions:

Funding
-This highly energized leader will help raise funds towards the organization’s budget. Create and implement a development and communication plan that will increase funding, grow, and diversify the funding base. 

Nonprofit Development Management

-Manage the development and communications team, and work effectively with consultants, finance, and programs.

-Work closely with the CEO and Senior Vice President of Organizational Development & Initiatives

-Work in partnership with the Fundraising Committee and Marketing Committee of the Board of Directors, Young Professionals Council Women


Corporate Partnership

-Leverage relationships with corporations and work to identify and cultivate new corporate engagement opportunities

-Build a pipeline of potential corporate partners and work with the team to create touch point, materials, and pitches for engagement

-Maximize corporate volunteer experiences when employees participate in Days of Service


Individual Giving

-Participate in the budget process and funding plan for the organization

-Support the CEO and SVP of Organizational Development & Initiatives in supporting their fundraising

-Identify, cultivate, and track major donors and develop strategies of engagement to build donor partnership relationships

-Guide the Board and fundraising committees to maximize relationships and support solicitation strategies

-Develop a regular schedule of donor cultivation and stewardship strategies and tactics

-Review and refine individual donor, annual giving, and Board fundraising campaigns


Foundation Grants

-Work with Grants Manager and senior leadership to build a pipeline of private, family foundations and corporate foundations

-Identify, cultivate, and work with the Grants Manager to track major institutional funding relationships; and explore grant opportunities with foundations and corporate foundations

-Establish meetings with foundation leads, and engage foundation in program thought leadership activities

-Ensure the development of prospects, and consistent and timely submissions of grant proposals and reports. 

-Work with the finance and program teams to provide budgets, data reports, and supporting documents for submission and reporting. 


Special Events

-Partner with the team to create and special events strategies to engage donors, corporate and community support

-Leverage special events to raise visibility and engagement; and work with the event planners to produce and execute

-Liaison with the Board of Directors and Young Professional Council Work to ensure DevoComms provides support to their special event activities


Communications

-Work closely with the team and PR firm to create and manage a communication and outreach program to elevate profile and engage the media, new donors, partners, funders, volunteers, and mentors

-Partner with PR Firm to coordinate media opportunities

-Coordinate interviewing and storytelling with the scholars, family and the team

-Ensure consistent and regular engagement on digital platforms, email communication and work with graphic team on public education and marketing materials, and graphics for social media and email


Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience 
-
A minimum of 5 to 7 years of development and communications in the nonprofit sector

-Bachelor’s or advanced degree.

-Commitment to vision and mission to provide programs and direct services to children and their families

-Passionate about and committed to issues related to human rights and social justice

-Demonstrated fundraising accomplishments in the areas of individuals, corporate and foundations work

-Self-directed, innovative, strategic thinking, and top-notch project management skills

-Excellent communications and the ability to tell a compelling story to diverse audiences

-Experience working with Boards and committees

-Competent, strong project manager with the ability to handle multiple assignments with tight deadlines

-Successful in developing relationships and partnerships

-Experience producing and managing special events

-Adept at digital and social media strategies and platforms

-Relevant experience working with confidential information; extremely high reliability and integrity

-Experience in overseeing databases and software to run development and communication operations
