Senior Accountant


Senior Accountant will leverage technical, analytical, and consulting skills to become an integral part of the financial reporting and decision-making processes across multiple areas of the organization. Additionally, will work to assist in the safeguards of company assets, providing timely and accurate external reporting, presenting financial analysis of trends and key issues, and consulting with business units using analytical tools to enable leadership to make timely, accurate and fact-based decisions that enhance profitable growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and perform balance sheet reconciliations that are complete, accurate and fully supported by appropriate evidence in compliances with GAAP, STAT and other accounting regulations.

  • Assist in monthly & quarterly financial reporting close and analysis of Financial Statements for all the company’s entities.

  • Play a pivotal role in the preparation of the company’s quarterly and annual statements including all required disclosures.

  • Analyze and review month end close activities for discrepancies, coding errors and other issues that should be researched, and resolved or brought to management’s attention, including preparation, review, upload, and posting of journal entries

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Federal, State Tax regulations to assist in multi-state premium tax filings

  • Actively involved with audit preparations and building out processes, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP and STAT regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with IT Dept. to streamline and automate process when possible

  • Support expense analysis and preparing revenue projections and forecasting expenditures

  • Partner with other business areas on special assignments and projects to assist in the further growth of the company

  • All other duties deemed appropriate by management


Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university with a degree in Accounting, Master’s Degree, MBA, and/or CPA preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within an accounting firm, insurance or financial services sector.

  • Investment accounting experience a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting principles a requirement.

  • Experience with general ledger, journal entry preparation, monthly & annual close processes

  • Excellent oral, communication, and time management skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work in Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote.

  • Knowledge of Clearwater, Sage Intacct or other related accounting software a plus.

  • Ability to work independently & multitask.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with others in a professional manner

  • Ability to function in a professional office environment and utilize standard office equipment
